Online Casino Group Anticipates Verdict from ECJ
14 Dec 2006
A leading Austrian online casino group's CEO is showing grave concern regarding his online casino company's business model becoming obsolete should the ECJ, or European Court of Justice, rule in favor of member states. The online casinos group has been anticipating the verdict from the ECJ, and the ruling should be made within the next coming months. The ruling has to do specifically with whether or not EU member states can outlaw online betting agencies licensed in another member state.'In principle, the Advocate General's recommendation reassures us. If the European Court of Justice didn't follow suit, the effect would be that national lawmakers can do as they want, and then you've got to say that a business model...wouldn't make sense anymore,' said the CEO of the online casino company, Norbert Teufelberger. The online casino CEO was jailed for several days in France, while several of his industry colleagues were arrested in the US. A host of online gaming companies have had to abandon their American business market after the UIGEA, or Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, was introduced to effectively outlaw Internet gambling.
Only time will tell what the ruling will be of the ECJ regarding online casino gaming licensing in other European states. In the meantime, the online casino group will anxiously await the ruling with hope that the ECJ will support the Austrian company's business model and allow it to continue offering online gambling to European gaming enthusiasts.
