Online casino firm 888 is crediting its new-look casino website for the 60,000 new members that signed up in the first quarter of 2006. The online casino firm, which has gained valuable publicity in recent months for its sponsorship of English football club Middlesbrough FC, has announced net gaming revenues of 45 million pounds sterling in the first three months of 2006. The revenue represents an increase of 42 percent compared to the same period in 2005. Revenue from poker increased 95 percent, while online casino games revenue rose 15 percent.The online casino firm also announced new membership figures - 319,374 active members at the end of March. The figure has risen by 23 percent since the previous year. The majority of new online casino fans to sign up with 888 are online poker players. Average quarterly revenue per online casino player was 554 pounds. A spokesperson for the firm was quick to point out that while growth in the U.S. continues, 888 is "growing faster out of the U.S., gradually reducing our dependence on the territory in line with the company's long-term strategy."
The new online casino site launched by 888 in April allows casino players to play several hands at once. The Gibraltar-based firm also released an online casino product for mobile phones earlier this month.
